The Pacific Northwest is my home and my inspiration. I love the deep, subdued colors of this region—the subtle play of light and shadow and the mood created and influenced by the ever changing weather. The amazing natural beauty in all that surrounds our everyday lives is my muse as I seek to portray the sense of peace and contentment I get from living in and reflecting upon my environment with art that says, “This is where I live.”

Currently residing in Kirkland, I grew up in Seattle, graduating from Queen Anne High School and Western Washington University. Drawing and painting were everyday activities as a child, but it wasn’t until I had children of my own that I realized I had taken my artistic talent for granted and it was time to use those talents to shape a career. I spent 15 years custom designing and painting canvas floor cloths, table runners, placemats and walls and 5 years as an art docent with the Lake Washington School District, all of which inspired me to pursue a career in fine art.

My paintings in acrylics and oils utilize the elements of color, texture and shape to portray the beauty I see around me, sometimes in a whimsical expression, sometimes in a more representational reflection, but always giving the viewer a place to explore and recognize. More recently, I have discovered the encaustic medium and consequently, my new passion for what I call my “sustainable art.” Utilizing specialty wood scraps destined for disposal, pigmented wax is layered and fused to create a captured vision of favorite elements from my surroundings. I then assemble the various pieces to form a whole work that is transformed into a multilayered, multi-textured landscape. I like to think of these works much like a walk in the forest, with each piece giving you a place to explore.

Currently an active member of the Eastside Association of Fine Artists and the Kirkland Arts Center, I enjoy painting commission pieces for local clientele, participating in local group and solo shows, and exhibiting at juried events. I am a resident artist at Musings in Mill Creek Town Center and have representation at Art Merchant International in Monroe. My most recent honor was receiving the 2007 City of Kenmore Purchase Award for one of my encaustic pieces now on display at the Kenmore City Hall.
